Stores on Virtue can support up to 3 causes. Customers can often see which causes the store supports and how much for the sale is going to a cause on the product page.

If customer donations are enabled - you can donate to this cause. Otherwise, a store will donate a portion of your order with no extra change to you. Some can have both or either customer & store donations enabled.

How does the Cause / Charity receive the funds?

Majority of Causes/Charities on Virtue receive funds via our partner the PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF). This means that the funds go from the store to PPGF and PPGF then sends the funds to the Charity.
​
When the store is fundraising for a PayPal Giving Fund Charity, the store is officially fundraising for the PayPal Giving Fund UK to benefit their chosen Charity/Charities.
​
There are causes that receive funds directly from the store or in other ways outside of the PayPal Giving Fund - these are World Bicycle Relief, Action Mental Health, Just One Tree, littlelifts, Rainbow Railroad, 7 Clean Seas, DIRT, Global Tree Planting projects, Plastic Offsetting Initiatives, British Ukrainian Aid, MenTalkHealthUK.

In some cases RNLI, World Land Trust, Woodland Trust and the Rainforest Foundation receive funds manually into their bank account.

Are there any fees associated with my donation?
There are a couple of fees associated with the donation that are important to know about.
Customer Donations are a subject to standard product sale fees set by the eCommerce payment provider - this fee is deducted from the donation before it goes to Charity. It is typically 0-2.5%.

In addition:
​PayPal Giving Fund - donations to over 20,000 of Charities on Virtue are raised for the PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF) to benefit the selected Charity. This means that donations first go to PPGF who then send them to the Charities. PPGF deduct 1.4% + 20p from the monthly donation as a transition fee.
When you support World Bicycle Relief, Action Mental Health, Just One Tree, littlelifts, Rainbow Railroad, 7 Clean Seas, DIRT, Global Tree Planting projects, Plastic Offsetting Initiatives, British Ukrainian Aid, MenTalkHealthUK - donations are received by these organisations directly.

Some stores may have a special agreement with the Charity where donations go to the Charity directly into their bank account -get in touch to find out if this is the case for the store that you are shopping with.
How do you work with PayPal Giving Fund?

Virtue is an official partner of the PayPal Giving Fund UK. This means stores we work with can support 1000s of UK Charities and Causes.
​
When you support Causes and Charities on Virtue, the store is officially raising funds for PayPal Giving Fund to benefit their chosen Charity/Cause. This means that the donations first go to PayPal Giving Fund who then send the donation to the Cause/Charity.

The exception to that are World Bicycle Relief, Action Mental Health, Just One Tree, littlelifts, Rainbow Railroad, 7 Clean Seas, DIRT, Global Tree Planting projects, Plastic Offsetting Initiatives, British Ukrainian Aid, MenTalkHealthUK. These organisations recieve the funds directly or in another way.

Does Virtue charge the Cause / Charity?
No, we don't charge the Cause/Charity any fees. Virtue fee is completely separate from the donation and is covered by the stores.
