About the Cause
Little Lifts exists to give every person in the UK affected by breast cancer a free “gift Box” at the start of treatment. They believe a small act of kindness can make a big difference during a difficult time.
About 55,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year. It is the most common cancer in the UK: a diagnosis occurs roughly every 10 minutes.
Many patients start treatment feeling uncertain, overwhelmed or physically/emotionally drained; Little Lifts uses the Boxes to offer support, comfort and the feeling of “someone cares”.
Little Lifts partner with NHS hospitals & breast cancer care centres: when someone is treated at a partner hospital, the Box is given automatically. For people not in a partner hospital, they run the “Little Kindness Fund”, which allows an application for a free Box.
Little Lifts also operate a shop: loved ones / supporters can purchase items / gift Boxes, and profits help fund free Boxes for others.
The charity was founded by Oa Hackett, who was diagnosed with primary breast cancer at age 28 in 2014, and inspired the idea of a “Box of little treats” to help through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Little Lifts
The team describes themselves as “small but mighty” and includes dedicated staff, volunteers, trustees and ambassadors.
Little Lifts emphasis is on free, emotionally supportive care for people undergoing treatment (not just fundraising).
The framing is simple, focused and human: treatment can be isolating and draining; the Box is designed to bring comfort and a sense of “someone’s there”.
