PEN International is an association of writers working to promote literature and to strengthen freedom of expression on every continent. PEN includes thousands of writers, translators, publishers, journalists, screenwriters, bloggers and readers in over 150 Centres, spanning more than 110 countries, who contribute to our mission of protecting freedom of expression and promoting literature

PEN is a non-political organisation which holds Special Consultative Status at the UN and Associate Status at UNESCO
