🌍Causes & Ideas this Earth Day: Planet vs Plastic♻️

Earth Day will take place on the 22nd of April (Mon). Millions of individuals and businesses around the world will be bringing attention to issues of sustainability and climate crisis + making a stand towards a more sustainable future.

This year's theme is Planet v Plastics. It highlights the fact that 380 million tones of plastic are now produced every year – while only 9% of plastic ever produced has been recycled.

We put together topical causes for merchants to support this Earth Day + other ways to share your message.

Causes this Earth Day

Set up and start supporting these causes on Virtue in minutes.

Ocean Bound Plastic Offsetting

$1.57 (£1.3) removes 1kg of certified ocean-bound plastic

Virtue works with a number of offsetting partners across the world to clean up certified ocean-bound plastic. Depending on the project supported, offsetting activities can include; beach cleaning efforts, river plastic capture, and other offsetting measures earlier in the supply chain.

Primary Partner(s): Plastics or Change, Seven Clean Seas

Plastic Bottle Recovery

$0.01 (£0.007) captures 1 plastic bottle worth of ocean bound plastic

Capturing single use plastics before they enter waterways we can work to protect our oceans and waterways. The Plastic Bottle recovery cause supports organizations to protect our oceans by capturing plastic by weight (10 grams of plastic recovered = the equivalent of one single use plastic bottle).

Primary Partner(s): Plastics for Change, Seven Clean Seas

Kelp Reforestation

$1.52 (£1.20) plants one kelp plant to help protect aquatic habitats and capture carbon

Not only does kelp vacuum carbon up to 5 times faster than rainforests, it can also be used as a powerful alternative to single use plastics. At Virtue, we work with a number of services that plant kelp helping to regrow forests and protect our oceans. Primary Partner(s): Ocean Wise.

Surfers Against Sewage

Surfers Against Sewage is a national marine conservation and campaigning charity that inspires, unites and empowers communities to take action to protect oceans, beaches, waves and wildlife.

WWF

WWF is the world's leading independent conservation organisation. Our mission is to create a world where people and wildlife can thrive together. To achieve our mission, we're finding ways to help transform the future for the world's wildlife, rivers, forests and seas; pushing for a reduction in carbon emissions that will avoid catastrophic climate change; and pressing for measures to help people live sustainably, within the means of our one planet.

Cool Earth

Cool Earth exists to champion the relationship between people, rainforest and climate. And the best way to do that? Back, support and listen to the people living there and take climate action with Cool Earth.

Seven Clean Seas

Then ocean plastic pollution broke our hearts! What started out as a humble desire to protect the environment and be part of the solution on a community level quickly developed into a go big or go home, don’t tell us it can’t be done, ambitious as f**k strategy to bring scalability to an environmental issue so meteoric, that nothing less can be an acceptable objective..£1.3 Donated Removes 1kg of Plastic from the Ocean. More.
